My Mom's Annoyed with the New Car Right Now

I think it's caused more annoyance in the last day than the Saturn did in 7 years. It's not Ford's fault, but rather the aftermarket company that the dealer had install remote start on the car. They totally botched it and the car has more electrical gremlins than a 90s VW.

The car just randomly honks and flashes the hazards every time you hit a decent bump, the interior lights flash on and off, and Sync resets itself which resets the climate control and Bluetooth connections.

So my dad and I take it to the dealer today thinking the service department can fix it. Nope. Gotta wait 'til they can get hold of the aftermarket company Monday to come and look at it. So we're stuck with a honking, flashing, electrically screwed up car until Tuesday because my mom says she driving it to work Monday "dammit."

Bet my parents are regretting getting remote start now.

Kinja'd!!!

Speaking of the Saturn, they had it parked right in front of the dealer lot. Stickers still on it and all. I forgot to take a picture of it Friday, I should have taken one today.

Hopefully they can unfuck whatever they did. If they can't, I would demand a replacement fusion or similar.

If I've never mentioned this before, I should point out that when we had a remote start installed in my mom's A6, it was so troublesome to install and had so many post-instillation problems that it had to stay for a long time at the installation place. While there, the place got broken into and my mom's car got stolen. However, it was having the exact problems you listed above, and the thieves panicked and abandoned it in the apartment complex behind the shop, about 2 blocks away. My mom had had the car less than a month.

It took them 4-5 months to find the damn thing. Sitting two blocks away. A totally unique red Audi wagon with vanity plates, sitting in front of an apartment for 4 months, within 2 blocks of where it was stolen. Let that sink in.

I pray your experience is a better one.

Ours if the first time this had happened apparently (of course) so it could just be a bad module or something. Should be totally fixable.

What dealer? I'm going to Boeing tomorrow for a few hours work, jus........

Never mind just looked at photo. Drove by there on 270 on the way to Florissant to visit inlaws.

I had an aftermarket cruise installed on my XJ When I bought it, and it was an ok job but I would have much preferred a dealer job with steering wheel buttons than a late '80's GM ripoff stalk protruding from steering column.

Remote start is another one of those innovations that are maybe necessary for very very few people. And the fact that it was aftermarket is terrifying.

It wasn't even the cops. Some lady called in and was like, "Yeah this car's been sitting in front of my place for four months, does it belong to someone?"

There is no face palm strong enough.

That's hilarious. They are going to have a hard time selling it once its transmission acts up on a test drive. It's a shame y'all weren't able to squeeze any extra money out of the stealership.

There is no good way to put a remote start in a 2013+ Fusion. I was gonna get one for my car (2013 Fusion SE 1.6) at the same time that my wife got one for hers (2013 Ford Escape 1.6 SE) and essentially the Fusion uses a different I think they called it "transponder" that the other cars on the road and there was no good way to crack it(yet). In the escape they put the starter in no problem but in the fusion they wouldn't do it as there was no way to do it without "jerry rigging" the car to accept it. They told me I'd have to leave my spare key in the trunk so the starter unit could read it and all sort of nonsense. so I said forget about it.

On the fusion if you don't get it factory installed you are basically shit out of luck.

That freakin sucks hope the dealer makes good on getting it fixed the right way. They should comp you guys a free detail or something for the trouble and wasted time. One day in the future all cars will have remote start built in and we'll start them from our phones.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > Rico
01/04/2015 at 01:25

I think the only comp we'll be getting is a nice loaner car, and even that could be doubtful.

Here's the funny thing; remote start via phone was an option. A cheaper one at that. Sales guy never told us about that though.

Aftermarket remote start outsourced at a dealer *cring*.

I honestly wouldn't even bother with the dealer. Take it to a very well known reputable installer, they'll tell you how bad they fucked up. Then send the dealer the bill.

Aftermarket remote start? Holy shit balls that dealer is cheap. Literally ford's is plug and play for those fusions I believe. Cost the dealer about $600-800 to install them. Douche nozzles.

Fortin module - EVO-ALL for the fusion will do the trick.

I've had aftermarket remote starts in every car I've driven starting with my '89 buick century back in 96. I've installed them in brand new cars, older cars, 5spds you name it. Never a single problem with any of them. It's the installer/shop they used that F'd this up.

Really, I have been driving for 20 years, and had 7 cars during those 20 years. All my cars had aftermarket remote starters, never once did I have a problem with any. My wife's 2011 elantra has a factory remote starter and I hate it. I find the oem more terrifying than aftermarket.

And if you live in a climate like I do in northern canada, Abitibi, and you will see that remote starters are a must over here.

Now I must go shovel my yard again.

Get off my snow bank.

End of rant.

Honestly, raise high hell and make the dealer fix this. Preferably with a new car with the factory remote start option. It's stupid that Ford makes a car with one, and it wasn't presented to you as an option when you got the car when it was clear you wanted one with a remote.

I've never been much of a fan of aftermarket remote start systems, especially since the newer a car is, the more electronic nannies it has that will need to be bypassed. I briefly considered installing remote start on my 3 back when I was in college and I'm beyond glad I didn't.
